Negeri Sembilan displays nine heroes of independence on LED billboards
SEREMBAN - To enliven the National Month, the state Education Department (JPNS) portrayed nine heroes from Negeri Sembilan as the faces of independence on LED (light emitting diode) billboards in eight districts in the state starting today until Sept 16.
State Education and Human Capital Committee chairman, Datuk Ismail Lasim said it was a platform to elevate the dignity of the iconic figures involved who contributed a lot to the country in achieving independence as well as in other fields.
"This initiative is more innovative and creative when it is displayed on billboards in collaboration with local authorities. The people can see and learn about the merits and sacrifices of these heroes who were born in this state,” he said after launching Paparan Wajah Merdeka Anak Nogoghi (Display of Negeri Sembilan Faces of Independence).
The famed figures of independence are Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad (First Agong of the Federation of Malaya); Yamtuan Antah Yamtuan Radin (defended the sovereignty of Seri Menanti in 1876); Abdul Qahar Mukmin (Dato Siamang Gagap); Datuk Syeikh Ahmad Mohd Said (prayer reciter at Malaya Independence’s Day on Aug 31, 1957); Datuk Siti Rahmah Kassim (independence fighter); Tan Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad Za'aba (Reverend Za'aba); Sergeant Hassan Othman; Tauke Tung Yen (a tin miner who developed Kuala Pilah) and national badminton legend Datuk Punch Gunalan.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on Facebook officially described the display as a source of knowledge for the community about the efforts and dedication of this nation’s independence figures.
"It is hoped that this display will not only be a source of knowledge but also invoke the spirit of love for the country,” he said, calling on the people to hold in remembrance and celebrate the legacy of the heroes who sacrificed everything for the future of the country’s betterment. - BERNAMA
