BATU PAHAT - Tragedy struck as a homeless man was discovered lifeless in a drainage ditch along Jalan Sultanah on Thursday, prompting public attention.

Batu Pahat district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said that the Batu Pahat district police headquarters were notified of the distressing finding around 5pm.

"The police with the help of fire and rescue department personnel and Batu Pahat Public Works Department (JKR) then removed the victim.

"The results of physical examination of the victim's body found that there were no injuries of criminal nature.

"The deceased had allegedly fallen into the concrete drain at the scene and drowned due to the flow of water," he said in a statement today.

As reports from the public suggest, the victim was a destitute individual who was often observed in the vicinity.

The case has been classified as a sudden death.

Individuals possessing any pertinent information regarding the deceased are encouraged to step forward and provide valuable evidence to aid the police in their fact-finding mission.
