Insan website under security enhancements after misuse claims for malicious intentions, says MBI
SHAH ALAM - The General Insurance Protection Scheme (Insan) website is currenlty having its security enhancements in response to misuse by an irresponsible party misusing the system for malicious intentions.
Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (Selangor MBI) in a statement refuted claims of data leaks involving Selangor residents for Insan, claiming them to be false.
It said the state government had initiated an automatic registration process by cross referencing voter information from the Election Commission (EC) with Selangor residents identification cards.
This was done after receiving complaints especially for the elderly about challenges of registering for the scheme.
However some policy recipients must fill the identification process and agree with the protection offer.
“If the verification is not filled, the RM10,000 social protection claim for death or disability due to an accident would not be accepted.
“No data leaks would happen because the Insan programme is protected by the Selangor government,” he said.
On Tuesday, a dispute on unauthorised user registrations through Insan, allegedly using personal data without permission especially on social media.
Selangor government said public between the ages of 30 to 80 years old were eligible to be protected under Insan.
It said there were two Insan schemes, one was conventional shared by AmGeneral Insurance Berhad and the other was takaful by Takaful Ikhlas General Berhad.
“This initiative is a continuation of the state government’s policy and aspirations to make Selangor a state that cares for the welfare of its people.
“The conventional Insan scheme offers insurance cover of RM10,000 in the case of death and permanent disability cases due to accidents and additional RM1,000 for funeral expenses in case of death.
“The Takaful Insan scheme offered takaful protection between RM10,000 to RM20,000 for death cases or permanent disability cases due to accidents and an additional RM1,000 for funeral expenses for death cases as well as RM50 per day benefit for up to 30 days for ward admission,” it explained.
Selangor MBI further said as of July 2023, a total of 44 claims were settled, resulting in a total compensation of RM537,000, which covered cases of death and permanent disabilities.
Insan is a government initiative launched on October 1, 2022, by the Selangor government to provide general protection insurance to six million residents of Selangor.
Selangor MBI was appointed as the implementation agency and Wavpay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd as the service operator.
The Insan programme was to ease financial burden of the Selangor public during accidents or deaths with the numver of road accidents in Malaysia increasing from 370,286 in 2021 to 545,588 in 2022.
