SHAH ALAM - Bersatu leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has confirmed that his and his wife's accounts have been frozen by the authorities since yesterday.

"We believe that this action has been taken due to pressure and interference from the highest political leaders in the government in Putrajaya," the opposition leader said in his Facebook.

"We will defend our rights and work to ensure justice. We appreciate all those who continue to support us in facing this challenge," he said.

Yesterday, Sinar quoting sources said the account of Hamzah, family members were allegedly frozen by Inland Revenue Board.

Hamzah claimed the freezing of accounts were later disclosed to the media, in what appears to be a "desperate effort" by the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to continue exerting pressure on the leadership of Perikatan Nasional.

He said PN is gaining increasing trust from the people.

"It is also a dirty tactic to create a negative perception especially after PN secured majority support, winning 146 out of 245 state seats in the recent elections," he said.

The Larut MP further said the political prosecution mirrors the case of PN chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, where the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General's Office were manipulated to create false allegations against coalition leaders.

"However, ultimately, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Muhyiddin's four corruption charges due to it being "flawed, baseless, ambigious and inconsistent" with the Criminal Procedure Code," Hamzah said.

He further said that more political action will be taken against him and PN , including using the police to investigate him for criticising DAP in state elections.

Hamzah said he has also submitted a demand letter to the MACC and the Malaysian government.

"My lawyer is currently preparing legal documents to initiate legal action against the MACC and the Malaysian government for wrongfully implicating me in a prosecution that has no relevance to me whatsoever," Hamzah claimed.

According to sources yesterday, the move was allegedly part of the ongoing probe by MACC into Bersatu's secretary-general's connection with a RM15 million corruption case involving businessman Datuk Seri Sim Choo Thiam.

Last June, the media reported that Hamzah's residence in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur was raided by IRD due to undisclosed taxes.
