SHAH ALAM - The highly anticipated PDRM's Selangor Merdeka Ride and Carnival is set to captivate attendees on Aug 26 at the sprawling Tapak Karnival Stadium in Shah Alam.

The grand inauguration of this vibrant carnival will be officiated by Crown Prince Tengku Amir Shah, promising a distinguished start to the festivities.

Boasting an extensive range of attractions and activities, this all-encompassing carnival is poised to be a singular entertainment extravaganza featuring cycling races, mesmerising live performances, delectable food booths, and an array of other engaging endeavors.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib revealed that a staggering count of nearly 1,500 avid cyclists have already registered to participate in the much-anticipated Merdeka Ride, a key highlight of the event.

"The Merdeka Ride comprises two distinct categories. A challenging 30-kilometer route is open to the general public, while a more accessible 10-kilometer track is exclusively reserved for VIPs and amateur cyclists," he told Sinar Daily at Karangkraf Mall here today.

Enthusiasts looking to join the Merdeka Ride are required to pay a nominal fee of RM70, which not only grants them participation but also entitles them to receive a commemorative T-shirt and a medal.

However, for those who, while not participating in the ride, still want to seize the memorabilia, the T-shirt and medal can be purchased separately for RM20 each.

In a generous gesture, Baharudin highlighted a unique feature of the carnival: a one-day, 50 per cent discount on traffic violation summons will be available at the event's summon counter.

Beyond this, the carnival grounds are slated to showcase captivating exhibits, including the esteemed PDRM Mounted Unit and the highly skilled K9 Unit.

Among the carnival's most anticipated highlights are the enticing lucky draws, with prizes ranging from motorcycles and televisions to flight tickets and more.

These draws are open to both Merdeka Ride participants and those who have acquired the event's exclusive merchandise.

Adding an extra layer of entertainment, the carnival will host performances by 20 talented local artists, injecting the atmosphere with rhythm and melody.

Classic car enthusiasts are in for a treat as well, as the event will feature a stunning display of vintage automobiles.

Encouraging public participation, Baharudin extended an open invitation to everyone to join in the festivities.

"Our vision for this carnival is to not only celebrate the spirit of Merdeka month but also to foster a stronger bond between the community and the police force," he expressed.

Meanwhile, Norita Mohd Noh, a seasoned 61-year-old cyclist, shared her perspective on the event.

Having experienced previous police-organized cycling events, she noted their generally commendable arrangements. Particularly impressed by the inclusion of a summon discount counter, she acknowledged its potential to boost attendance.

"As a dedicated cyclist, such events are part and parcel of our routine.

"Given the plethora of cycling events happening nearly every weekend, I am drawn to those that offer a unique and distinctive experience," Norita said.
