Selangor Pas Youth calls for thorough investigation into Insan scandal
SHAH ALAM - Selangor Pas Youth has demanded for a detailed explanation from Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on state life insurance scheme, Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan) scandal.
Its chief Mohamed Sukri Omar says throrough investigation into the issue was needed.
"We demand and call for a thorough explanation from the Selangor MB and state government leadership as well as for the issue to be investigated by the authorities in depth.
"I'm aware of the current news regarding the insurance scheme which is rumoured to have been registered to the people of Selangor without the knowledge and permission of the scheme recipient.
"This is a clear offence under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 as a financial product, this insurance scheme cannot be forcibly registered without the consent and knowledge of the beneficiary," he said in a statement.
Sukri also criticised the response given by Amirudin who denied allegations of data leakage or misuse under the state life insurance scheme.
He also advised citizens who have found their name listed in an unauthorised insurance scheme to lodge a police report as a measure to protect the security of their data.
Commenting further, he said the search results and findings carried out by a group of influential individuals have found that the people of Selangor, especially those who vote in the state have been registered under this scheme since 2022 and have active status and were scheduled to expire in November this year.
"We found that there are some big questions that need to be answered by the state administration regarding the scheme.
"The status of WavPay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd that manages this project is owned by the private company called CT Frank Technology with a majority share of 51 per cent.
"The position of former state exco Teng Chang Khim as the director of WavPay is a conflict of interest in this matter," he said.
He also said there were inconsistent statements by the state government regarding the scheme.
“For example, the statement by Teng in 2022 says that scheme needs to be applied for, but this is contrary to Amirudin’s statement today which states that this scheme is only at the 'pre-registration' stage which is active when filled in by the people themselves,” he said.
Amirudin earlier explained that what had happened was that the scheme has a pre-registration process in connection with the Election Commission.
