GEORGETOWN - The room of the Pulau Tikus Police Station chief caught fire earlier today

The Penang Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 8:33am and dispatched personnel from the Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station and Jalan Perak to the scene.

Upon arrival, the fire and rescue team found that the fire involved the air conditioning unit in the room, which had an estimated area of 20 x 20 square feet.

The fire also involved some building structures, but the percentage of fire destruction was estimated to be only 20 per cent.

"The fire was put out by the police personnel at scene before the fire brigade arrived at the scene," a spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement today.

The operational commander then carried out surveillance and extinguishing work to ensure that the situation was completely safe.

No casualties were reported.

The case has been handed over to the Fire and Rescue Department's Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) for further investigation.
