PETALING JAYA - The ploy of a man disguising himself as a police officer to commit a robbery at a hotel in Damansara Utama here on Monday came to an end after he was apprehended by the police a few hours later.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said a report was received by his team at 12.56pm from a 35-year-old male victim.

"The suspect had disguised himself as a police officer and claimed to be conducting an inspection before robbing the victim of RM3,000 in cash.

"Acting on information, at about 2.30pm on the same day, a team of police officers from the Damansara Police Station arrested the suspect in the Shah Alam area," he said in a statement today

He said the police seized several items in addition to the clothing worn by the suspect during the robbery incident.

Fakhrudin said an inquiry revealed that the 29-year-old suspect had three previous records related to criminal cases and three drug-related cases.

"A urine screening test confirmed that the suspect was positive for the drug type 'syabu'," he added.

Furthermore, he said the suspect has been remanded for four days under Section 392 of the Penal Code for further investigation.
