SHAH ALAM - Two Prasarana (M) Berhad Staff pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Wednesday on three charges of asking and receiving bribes of RM60,000 to aid a company gain Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd works tenders.

Unit chief Mohd Taufik @ Azali Mohd Nor, 45, and Procurement chief Yasdi Mat Yasin, 48, made the plea after charges were read in front of Judge Datuk Anita Harun.

The charges had both individuals asking and receiving bribes from a company director to aid the company to gain works from Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd that were ‘To Perform Major Maintenance for Automatic Train Wash Plant No 1 at Subang Depot, Kelana Jaya Line’ and ‘To Perform Major Maintenance for Automatic Train Wash Plant No 2 at Subang Depot, Kelana Jaya Line’.

The charges were made following Section 16 (a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 which brought a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the bribe total or RM10,000 whichever higher if found guilty.

This case had the prosecution led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ikhwan Zaudii Nordin while the defence was led by lawyers Norizan Yaacub and Muhamad Aizat Fakri for Mohd Taufik as well as Yasdi.

The court allowed each of the accused to be placed on RM15,000 bail with a surety and to fulfil additional conditions that were to hand over their passports to the court and report themselves to the nearest MACC office monthly.

The document handover date was set on Oct 11.
