Socso benefits granted to eight Elmina crash victims, including p-hailing rider

SHAH ALAM - The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has affirmed the eligibility of eight individuals associated with the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam on Aug 17, to receive Socso compensation, including p-hailing rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Saleh.

Socso Communication and Promotion Division chief Mohd Wazid Zaidon disclosed that one of the beneficiaries will be entitled to the Restricted Pension Benefit under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969.

"For six beneficiaries, they qualify for Dependents' Benefits under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4)," Mohd Wazid told Sinar Daily.

He also elaborated that another beneficiary is set to receive two distinct benefits: Dependents' Benefits under the Social Security Scheme Act for Self-Employment (Act 789), and Restricted Pension under the Workers' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).

Addressing another facet of the situation, Wazid further indicated that the provision of RM2,000 in Corpse Management Benefits has been coordinated for the heirs of seven individuals affected by the crash. However, a momentary delay has arisen for one heir's payment, as the organisation awaits a response from the next-of-kin.

Notably, prior to this confirmation, inquiries had arisen on the Facebook abd other social media platform seeking clarification about the compensation status of Muhamad Hafiz, a p-hailing rider involved in the incident.

Previously, Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar directed Socso to take proactive steps in assessing the eligibility status of the 10 crash victims under the immediate coverage provision.

Among the eligible beneficiaries of the compensation are Datuk Seri Johari Harun, Khairil Azwan Jamaluddin, Mohammad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Shaharul Amir Omar, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki, Shahrul Kamal Roslan, Heikal Aras Abdul Azim.

However, two individuals, Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali and Shaharuddin Shaari, are deemed ineligible to receive the compensation.

Last Thursday, the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) six-seater aircraft crashed near Elmina, Shah Alam during its approach into Subang Airport from Langkawi.

The devastating crash resulted in the loss of all eight individuals aboard the aircraft, along with two additional casualties among road users.
