The incident happened at 1.58pm through a dashcam video that had gone viral on social media.
A motorcycle was seen crashing into the victim who was crossing the road with his sister in the 11 second video.
Langkawi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said early investigations found the mother of the victim had stopped her vehicle by the shoulder of the road to send the nine-year-old boy to school.
He said the victim’s 14-year-old sister then accompanied the boy out of the vehicle to cross the road.
“The incident happened when the motorcycle from the Padang Matsirat heading to Teriang had crashed into the boy.
“The accident had the boy falling on the road and they were brought to the Padang Matsirat Health Clinic by their mother for treatments,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the victim suffered injuries on the forehead and chin as well as cuts around the right elbow due to the incident.
Shariman added investigations found the incident occurred due to the victim crossing the road instead of the pedestrian crossing where the signal was not working.
