Two police reports lodged over defamation against syarie judge, lawyer on YouTube
TUAN BUQHAIRAH TUAN MUHAMAD ADNANPUTRAJAYA - Two police reports have been lodged against a YouTuber for posting a video insulting a syarie judge and lawyer.
The report was lodged by the Malaysian Syariah Officers' Association (PPSM) and Malaysian Syariah Lawyers Association (PGSM) at the Putrajaya district police headquarters, today.
PPSM president Abu Suffian Abu Yaziz told reporters that in the video, a man claimed that the legal practitioners were allegedly involved in an immoral act by swapping partners after a group motorcycle ride activity.
"We would like to stress that this allegation is insulting and humiliating the country's syariah legal and judicial institutions," he said.
He said the allegation was completely baseless as it was not supported by any solid evidence via the legal channel.
"It also gives a bad narrative to the society and seemingly means to spice up a story for cheap publicity and slandering syarie officials including syarie judges and lawyers," he said.
On the other hand, PGSM deputy president Moez Basri insisted that his party has no problem if the alleged misconduct was true.
"If proven (true), we have no problem to take action against the individuals allegedly involved.
"It is unfair to make such a reckless accusation," he said.
He said they will also lodge a report to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding the matter.
"We hope that action will be taken against the YouTube channel owner as he had tainted the name of the syariah judicial institution," he said.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian's check on the YouTube channel found that the video had yet to be taken down.
It was uploaded last Saturday and had gained over 89,000 views and 1,900 likes.
