New MB faces challenges of managing Malay sentiment - Ilham Centre
KUALA LUMPUR - The new Menteri Besar of Selangor who will be sworn in on Monday faces the challenge of managing the Malay sentiment, which has shifted towards the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, according to Ilham Center Executive Director Hisomuddin Bakar.
Hisomuddin said that the new MB also needs to implement a comprehensive reform agenda that will set a benchmark for other states.
"Managing the Selangor state government, which is diverse and made up of people of different races, requires careful management. (In reality,) one block (in the State Legislature) now functions as a balance to the government is the voice of Malay.
"As a result, managing the Malay narrative is critical for the next state government.
"Managing the Malay community's voice and aspirations is thus an enormous job for the State Government," he said during Fokus Minggu Depan programme by Astro Awani today.
He said that the new Menteri Besar also needs to implement a comprehensive reform agenda that will set a benchmark for other states.
"So in the context of this question, I will see if Selangor has succeeded in setting a benchmark different from other states.
"It will be an important standard that this is a Madani-based government capable of bringing about a lot of change and reform thinking," he added.
In the recent Selangor State Election, the alliance of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Selangor (BN) succeeded in forming the state government by winning 34 seats against PN's 22. - AWANI
