KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan Police have successfully seized 160,000 yaba pills worth RM1.76 million that were concealed in a sack and two plastic containers in Kampung Kubang Kacang here on Friday.

In the 7.45pm raid, acting on information, a team of police officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Kelantan Police Headquarters detained a 41-year-old Thai man who was holding a white sack in his right hand.

State Police Chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun, said that preliminary investigations revealed that the individual in question was a former prisoner who had recently been released from a jail in the neighboring country.

"Upon inspecting the sack held by the suspect, 17 yellow packets were found, each labeled with Y1, suspected to contain 100,000 yaba pills in total.

"Further questioning of the suspect, who worked as a shop assistant, led the police to a storeroom at the rear of the house.

"Upon further inspection, two blue plastic containers were found, containing 60,000 yaba pills," he said at a press conference held on Sunday.

He added that a Nissan Teana car and a Honda Scoopy motorcycle with Thai registration plates, valued at RM27,500, were also seized.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
