GOMBAK - A total of 13 police personnel and one senior officer have been suspended after they were arrested in a raid by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Compliance Standards Department (JIPS) at an entertainment outlet in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on Saturday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the actions taken were suspension from their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We are currently completing the investigation papers to be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers," he said when met at the Raudatul Sakinah Cemetery in Gombak on Sunday.

Ayob was present at the cemetery to give his final respects to Datuk Seri Johari Harun, who died in the tragic Beechcraft 390 aircraft crash in Elmina, Shah Alam on Thursday.

He said that the raid was conducted at around 2.30am on Saturday and that the 13 police personnel and the senior officer were all tested positive for drugs.

The two deputy public prosecutors were not tested for drugs.

All of the 16 individuals were released on police bail while investigations are ongoing.

Ayob said that the police will not tolerate any wrongdoing by its personnel and that strict action will be taken against those who are found to be involved in illegal activities.

"We have taken disciplinary action against 741 personnel this year and at least 60 have been dismissed," he said.

He added that the disciplinary process can take a long time and asked the public not to make assumptions that the police have released the officers and personnel without taking any action.

"They were given police bails, which is a standard procedure.

"The preliminary screening showed that they tested positive for drugs, but we will send the samples to the pathology lab for further testing, which may take up to a month," he said.

If found guilty, the officers and personnel involved will be suspended temporarily while an appeal will be made in court.

Ayob said that the police are committed to upholding the law and that anyone found to be involved in illegal activities will be dealt with accordingly.
