KUALA LUMPUR - Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has allocated RM80 million for corporate responsibility (CR) programmes this year, which is part of its initiative to drive the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) agenda.

Group president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said the banking group aspires to build a better world while undertaking its day-to-day business operations, which are vital elements for long-term success.

"Our focus is on sustainable programmes which provide long-term community benefits and contribute to the progress of communities where we operate.

"It may be challenging, but balancing the short and long-term needs is key to delivering sustainable, profitable growth which creates value for all our stakeholders,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Maybank Global CR Day, here today.

Khairussaleh said over 20,000 Maybank employees worldwide commemorated the 11th Maybank Group Global CR Day where they engaged directly with over 11,000 community members in their respective locations by continuing to play a role in impacting lives and the environment through sustainable initiatives.

He said the annual event, themed "Adapt, Change, Thrive”, was part of the group’s flagship employee volunteerism programme called "Cahaya Kasih”, a platform which enables and empowers employees to come together as agents of change in making a positive and long-lasting impact with the communities and for the environment.

To that effect, 90 employees from the Group CEO’s office collaborated for a CR initiative with the Autism Cafe Project (ACP), a cafe run by autistic youths, in Kuala Lumpur today.

Under its theme "Cooking with ACP’z”, among the activities held were a cook-and-bake session and the distribution of 100 meal packets and drinks to the underserved communities in the Jalan Tun HS Lee area. - BERNAMA
