Opposing Pas in poll does not mean opposing Islam – Khairuddin
KUALA TERENGGANU - Umno Ulama Council Executive Secretary Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, has criticised the statement made by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, claiming that two state assembly members in the state were opposing the struggle of Islam.
The former Kuala Nerus MP emphasised that competing against Pas in elections does not mean opposing Islam.
"Pas is not the only group representing Islam. Islam belongs to various groups and parties that champion it.
"We all carry the torch of Islamic politics in different ways and through varying efforts.
"We all argue using evidence from the Quran and Hadith when presenting our respective political agendas," he wrote in a Facebook post.
Expanding on his remarks, Khairuddin stated that when the connotation of 'opposing Islam' becomes the basis of the conflict, electoral competition no longer remains a rivalry but transforms into warfare that ultimately leads to the division of the Muslim community.
He further warned that this situation could even lead to the shedding of Muslim blood.
Recently, a video clip lasting 44 seconds went viral, showing Nassuruddin accusing two opposition state assembly members in Kelantan of opposing the Islamic struggle during a lecture in Kota Bharu on Friday.
Meanwhile, Amanah Youth Chief, Mohd Hasbie Muda, tweeted that Nassuruddin's statement was evidence that the ‘takfiri’ phenomenon had not receded from Pas.
A takfiri is a Muslim who accuses another Muslim or an adherent of another Abrahamic faith of apostasy.
"Even the Pas Youth Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, denies it. I'm ready for a debate!" he asserted.
