Elmina crash: 'We sensed the worst when news of the incident circulated', says wife of victim
SHAH ALAM - Suhaila Akasha, the wife of one of the victims tragically killed in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, on Thursday, is currently under confinement as she mourns the loss of her late husband.
Her husband, Shahrul Amin Omar, a retired navy officer, was among the 10 victims.
Forty-six-old Suhaila shared sorrow and grief with members of the media over her husband's untimely demise.
"Our instincts were already telling us something was wrong, and then others confirmed that he was on board the ill-fated aircraft.
"Regardless of the circumstances, we must find a way to accept the harsh reality.
"Before his departure, he had informed us about the schedule of the flight, and I was aware of when he would depart from his location and the expected arrival time at Subang," she shared.
She pointed out that she had received confirmation about her husband's involvement in the accident through an Air Force communication, which confirmed he was aboard the plane.
However, at that moment, the exact details of the situation were not definitively established due to the chaotic circumstances.
Subsequently, the Royal Malaysian Navy provided her with more information, confirming the status of all the victims involved in the tragic incident.
"Various parties informed us of the situation. But we sensed the worst due to the widespread circulation of videos; the initial shock was somewhat alleviated when we received the official news," Suhaila recounted.
She emphasised that she had already learned to manage her emotions and maintain composure in the face of adversity.
"Currently located in Manjung, I plan to return home temporarily before making my way back here.
"I have four children—one son and three daughters. One of my sons is autistic," Suhaila concluded.
As she grapples with her grief, Suhaila's words provide poignant insight into the emotional journey of those affected by this devastating event.
