BANDAR PERMAISURI - An employee of a moneylending company was shot in his right shoulder in an incident in Kampung Rhu Sepuluh, Penarik in Setiu, near here this afternoon.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said in the 12.55pm incident, the victim and two colleagues were on their way from Kuala Terengganu to Setiu to meet a client.

He said that when the victim, who was travelling in a Perodua Bezza, arrived at the scene, two unknown men in two cars suddenly appeared and opened fire at him.

"The victim was terrified and sped off but rammed his car into a lamppost before it skidded and overturned at the roadside.

"The victim and his friends fled into a convenience store at a petrol station and later ran into the forest," he said when met at the Penarik police station here today.

Mazli said preliminary investigations found the two cars, driven by the suspects, were tinted and the car registration numbers removed. The cars sped off in the direction of Besut.

He said a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify the suspects and motive behind the incident.

"Anyone with information related to the incident and suspects can contact the nearest police station to help with the investigation," he added. - BERNAMA
