75-year-old grandmother molested, robbed

TAIPING - A grandmother did not only fall victim to a robbery but was also to a molestation case by a man in Pokok Assam last Tuesday.

The 8.40am incident took place in front of the 75-year-old victim's house, causing in a loss of over RM5,000.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said the victim was allegedly alone in her yard when she was approached by a male stranger.

The suspect whose face was covered with a cloth dragged the woman into the house and molested her.

"The suspect then escaped in a Honda HRV belonging to the victim's son-in-law and fled with possessions and cash.

"However, the vehicle was then found abandoned about 1.3 kilometre from the location of the incident," he said in a statement, today.

The police detained the suspect on the same day the report was lodged.

The 32-year-old local man was arrested at a house in Pokok Assam at around 3.30pm.

"Preliminary urine screening found that the unemployed suspect was positive for heroin.

"The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Aug 22 for investigation of the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for molestation and Section 392/397 of the same code for robbery," he said.
