Unity government needs to listen, not deny - Syahir
ROSKHOIRAH YAHYASHAH ALAM - The unity government needs to learn to listen to the people's grievances instead of denying or refuting matters raised by MPs or assemblymen.
Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman said that this situation differs from the administration eras of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He explained that this was evident during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, where the government listened to the complaints of the people and provided various forms of assistance, particularly to those in need.
"Some people say this is the time to work, and I agree, but for MPs and assemblymen to fulfill their responsibilities, the Unity Government needs to listen. However, today, they not only fail to listen but also deny.
"The Malay Business Council mentioned that the government's data doesn't match with the reality on the ground. They say sales have fallen by 30 to 40 per cent. To work effectively, you need to listen, not deny everything," he clarified.
He made these remarks as a panelist on the Sinar Live programme titled 'Ruh ruh ruh, neh neh neh' at the Karangkraf Complex, hosted by Haizir Othman yesterday.
When asked about political manoeuvring within the country's politics, Syahir said the opposition side doesn't engage in it as much as the government leaders do.
"Actions like the Kajang Move and such were not initiated by Muhyiddin or Tok Guru (Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang). So, you can't accuse the opposition of 'politicking' by targeting the government. To me, the recent state elections were a clear signal that both Malays and non-Malays rejected the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said.
