Lim Teng Huat, 67, was accused of using the "Watikah Kurniaan Darjah Kurnia Paduka Seri Diraja Perak” (D.S.D.P) title at the Melaka Registrar of Societies on Oct 14, 2019.
He was charged under Section 7(3) of the Perak Emblems, Titles and Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2016, which is punishable by a fine of up to RM500,000 or a maximum of five years imprisonment or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Puteri Nor Nadia Mohamed Iqbal offered bail at RM50,000 for each charge and requested his passport to be surrendered to the court, taking into account that Lim has businesses in Indonesia and therefore posed a flight risk.
During mitigation, Lim’s lawyer Khaw Tian Keat appealed for a lower bail on the basis that his client had a weak heart and had undergone a heart bypass surgery last year.
Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail set bail at RM30,000, ordered Lim’s passport to be surrendered to the court and set Sept 12 for case remention - BERNAMA
