KOTA KINABALU - The Sabah Perikatan Nasional (PN) has responded to the statement made by Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, the president of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), concerning the participation of only Sabah parties in the upcoming state elections.

However, the response highlights that Yong's statement did not consider the broader perspective of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) at the national level.

Sabah PN chairman Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee expressed that Yong, as the president of SAPP, holds the responsibility of elucidating their stance to PN, taking into account the implications of his statement.

"Sabah PN stresses that no party should hinder another political entity, including PN, from participating in the democratic process of Sabah," Ronald said in a statement today.

Ronald, who is also the Sabah Bersatu Leadership Body chief affirmed that as the coalition with the strongest support in the recent Aug 12, 2023 state elections, PN aims to bolster its presence in other states, including Sabah.

Yong's recent suggestion for GRS to field candidates for all 73 state seats in the upcoming state elections has prompted this response from Sabah PN.
