Azmin: Court acquittal strengthens PN's stand of Muhyiddin's innocence
SHAH ALAM - The recent dismissal of four charges against Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has bolstered PN's assertion of his innocence.
Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the charges against Muhyiddin were dropped by Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin in the Kuala Lumpur High Court at precisely 9:29am today.
"The Kuala Lumpur High Court judge decided that the four abuse of power charges under Section 23 of the MACC Act were defective, did not disclose any offence and amounted to an abuse of the court process.
"As a result, the Court released and acquited Muhyiddin of all charges related to alleged corrupt practices and abuse of power.
"Since the main offences and predicates have been canceled, the three Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) charges cannot stand alone and must also be canceled," Azmin said in his media statement.
However, today's achievement highlights an apparent effort to damage the reputation of Bersatu, especially Muhyiddin, aiming to sway public sentiment against PN.
Yet, contrasting state election outcomes show resounding victories in Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and substantial gains in Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan, he added.
"PN has consistently maintained that if the government adheres to the principle of the 'rule of law,' Muhyiddin would not be charged in court.
"PN is confident that Muhyiddin has never been involved in corrupt practices and abuse of power.
"In fact, he is someone who vehemently opposes corruption practices, including opposing the largest financial scandal, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), to the extent that he was dismissed as Deputy Prime Minister."
This morning's court ruling will bolster the position within PN, reinforcing the commitment to combat corruption and power abuse within the current administration, while prioritising economic advancement for the nation and its citizens.
