Police investigate fake identity card cases linked to state elections
KUALA LUMPUR - Investigations into incidents surrounding identity cards during the recent state elections have revealed a pattern of using fake identity cards.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has said that these cases of fraudulent identity cards are not new and have also occurred during the previous 15th General Election (GE15).
Razarudin highlighted that such incidents tend to occur on voting days, and preliminary investigations have indicated a prevalence of fake identity cards being employed in these cases.
"We have received a total of 94 police reports related to this matter, and our investigations are ongoing," he told a press conference here today.
It was reported that 94 police reports had been filed regarding the misuse of identity cards during the voting process in the recent State Elections.
Razarudin added that the majority of reported offenses occurred in Selangor, totaling 48 cases.
This was followed by Penang with 20 cases, Negeri Sembilan with six, Kelantan with two, and Kedah and Terengganu each having nine reported cases of identity card misuse.
