Sanusi, Aminuddin reappointed as Menteri Besar
KUALA LUMPUR - The Kedah and Negeri Sembilan Menteris Besar were sworn in today, bringing to three the heads of state government appointed since the conclusion of elections in six states on Saturday.
The latest to be reappointed to helm their states were Jeneri assemblyman Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in Kedah and Sikamat assemblyman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun in Negeri Sembilan.
Aminuddin was reappointed to the post after the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance won 31 of the 36 seats up for grabs, while Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhammad Sanusi also led his coalition to a landslide victory, winning 33 of the 36 seats contested.
Yesterday, Penang became the first state to appoint its Chief Minister after the polls when Padang Kota assemblyman Chow Kon Yeow, 65, from the PH-BN pact, was sworn in for a second term.
This leaves only Selangor, Kelantan and Terengganu which have yet to appoint their state chief executives.
The Kelantan Menteri Besar is scheduled to be sworn in tomorrow while that for Terengganu is still a question mark.
In the case of Selangor, the swearing-in ceremony has been postponed until the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, returns from London.
The swearing-in of Aminuddin at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan, at 4.15pm today ended speculation on who from the PH-BN pact would be appointed to lead the state.
Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias had earlier been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Menteri Besar post.
Muhammad Sanusi, 49, who first became Menteri Besar on May 17, 2020, was reappointed to the post this morning.
In the case of Kelantan, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said last Friday that the state was expected to have a new Menteri Besar and Deputy Menteri Besar.
This means Kelantan PN chairman Datuk Ahmad Yakob would not be reappointed to the post he has held since 2013. Pas won 43 of the 45 seats contested in Saturday’s polls.
For Selangor, state PH chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is likely to be reappointed as Menteri Besar after PH-BN won 34 of the 56 seats on offer.
On July 18, Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Unity Government would retain Amirudin as Menteri Besar should the PH-BN alliance win the polls.
Pas made a clean sweep of all the 32 seats in Terengganu, but as at 6pm today, there was no word on the swearing-in of the Menteri Besar.
Takiyuddin had said on Friday that Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar would be retained as Menteri Besar should he win and Pas was returned to power. - BERNAMA
