Cleaners littering Lido Beach fired
JOHOR BAHRU - Cleaners who dumped rubbish from bins on the edge of Lido Beach, have been sacked with immediate effect.
Their act had been recorded and went viral on social media on Sunday
The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) in a statement on Monday informed that strict action had been taken after identifying the perpetrators and the contractor company involved.
"MBJB has issued a warning letter to the relevant contractor and ordered the contractor to sign a letter of undertaking to ensure that this does not happen in the future.
"Re-cleaning work in the relevant area was ordered to be carried out immediately by the contractor on the day of the incident," he said.
Their despicable act was noticed by a woman who stopped her vehicle at Lido Beach in front of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) after returning from exercising.
The one-minute-22-second video recording had angered netizens who were displeased with the amount of trash being disposed of at the beach.
The video had attracted the attention of the state's Housing and Local Government Exco, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
