JIPS investigates police brutality incident

KUALA LUMPUR - A thorough investigation will be done into an alleged incident of police brutality by an officer outside an entrance of an East Coast Police Headquarters on Friday.

Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) director, Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said if there are criminal elements to the case it would be investigated from another angle with charges different from disciplinary offences.

“If there are criminal elements, it would be investigated according to the criminal angle leading to charges different from disciplinary offences where they can be subject to actions such as warning letters, fines including dismissal,” he said during the Induction and Handover of Duties of the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief at the Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here.

Azri said he had never compromised with any offences done by officers or personnel.

“We will not compromise with any misconduct, but the public must be fair to the police as well, sowe can perform our best,” he said.

Previously the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain had said the case would be investigated.

He explained, the case was not only investigated following Section 186 of the Penal Code, but an internal investigation would be done by JIPS as well.

Police on Friday confirmed an incident outside of the gates of an IPD.

Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the incident happened at a state in the east coast.
