JAKARTA - Four political parties have officially declared their support for Prabowo Subianto to run as a candidate in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election.

The declaration was announced here today as Gerindra Party join forces with the National Awakening Party (PKB), Golkar Party, and the National Mandate Party (PAN).

Prabowo, who leads the Gerindra Party and serves as the Defence Minister, view the inclusion of Golkar and PAN as a strengthening factor for his candidacy in the upcoming election.

"I’ve gained additional trust and responsibility from Golkar and PAN. A year ago, PKB also expressed their support for me as a presidential candidate,” he said.

He pointed out that the cooperation with these parties is rooted in the shared commitment to prioritise the interests and sovereignty of the Indonesian people and the country.

PKB’s chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, Golkar’s chairman Airlangga Hartarto who is also the current Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, and PAN’s chairman and Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan were also present during the declaration.

Prabowo has previously contested the presidency in 2014 and 2019, but was defeated by Joko Widodo in both elections. - BERNAMA
