Selangor cops receive 58 reports on polling day

SHAH ALAM - Cops received 58 reports on the polling day of the Selangor state elections yesterday.

Selangor Chief of Police Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said 50 investigation papers have been launched so far.

He said a total of 48 reports were opened under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act 1954, while one report each was investigated under Section 4(A)(1) and Section 26 of the same act.

"The remaining eight reports have been classified as 'No Offence Disclosed', meaning police reports that have been made without any occurrence of an offence or arrest.

"All of these are reports made by the Ops Cantas team, which conducted inspections during the Selangor state polls," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Hussein added that two reports were classified as 'No Further Action' (NFA) and four were categorised as "Refer Other Agency" (ROA).

He said that during the campaigning period from July 29 until polling day on Saturday, the Selangor police received a total of 779 police reports.

"From this number, a total of 78 investigation papers have been opened, and two arrests have been made.

"A total of 701 cases involve preventive actions by the Selangor police as well as cases that do not involve criminal elements," he said.

He said that the overall monitoring during each campaign or rally held in Selangor amounted to 3,463.

Of this number, he said, permitted campaigns were 2,517 and campaigns without permits were nine, while permitted rallies were 936 and rallies without permits were 1.

Hussein said the total strength of the Selangor contingent police on polling day was 13,319 individuals.

Furthermore, he added that the Selangor police had successfully carried out their duties excellently, and there were no unwanted incidents yesterday.
