Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the RVP, which is expected to open this November, would be able to accommodate about 50 motorhome vehicles and provide various facilities for water supply, electricity, toilets, lighting and recreation purposes.
"We held a simulation to test the park with the participation of 15 vehicles and 40 individuals at Bukit Serindit yesterday and the idea of having this recreational area came from the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
"This RVP is seen to be able to attract visitors especially among campervan owners and enthusiasts because in Malaysia, there are about 700 motorhomes but the owners do not have a special area to park unless they come to Melaka."
Shadan said the RVP will be a new tourism product in the state, ahead of Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024), to attract more tourists among local and foreign motorhome owners.
He said this after the Kayak Marathon Adventure to Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan which was flagged off by State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.
Meanwhile, on the event today, Rais said 23 participants, involving six kayaks will take turns to kayak a distance of 42 km from Melaka Marina, Kota Laksamana here to Teluk Kemang, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
He said the kayak adventure which is expected to take about 13 hours bginning from 9am today, was one of the initiatives of the private sector, among them, Melaka Tourism Association (MTA) and the Malaysian Hotel Association (MAH) Melaka Chapter, to work together with MBMB and the Tourism Promotion Division to promote TMM 2024.
"We hope that TMM 2024 can be promoted through such events or activities, thereby giving additional boost to the tourism industry," he said. - BERNAMA
