Selangor state elections: PH-BN consider petitioning files for four constituencies
KLANG - Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) intend to file election petitions to challenge the results of several constituencies won by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Selangor state elections.
Selangor PH Chairman, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said that the constituencies in question are the Sungai Kandis, Taman Medan, Gombak Setia, and Dengkil State Assembly seats, where the victory margins were low.
According to him, the results for these four seats saw the PH-BN coalition losing by 407 votes in Dengkil, 167 votes in Sungai Kandis, 58 votes in Gombak Setia, and 30 votes in Taman Medan.
"Other than the slim majorities, we also note that there are several issues that could be considered for filing petitions, such as unreturned ballot papers in Sungai Kandis.
"Our legal team will conduct further research on the cases in all these constituencies as part of the consideration for filing petitions," he said during the announcement of the Selangor stae election results at a hotel here last night.
Also present were Selangor DAP Chairman, Gobind Singh Deo; Selangor Parti Amanah Negara Chairman, Ir Izham Hashim; and Deputy Chairman of Selangor Umno's Liaison Body, Datuk Johan Abd Aziz.
When commenting on the performance of the Unity Government in the Selangor state elections, Amirudin opined that the competition posed by PN was not too intense.
He even pointed out that PN had only secured less than 200 narrow majority votes in several State Assembly seats.
"We don't consider it very intense even though there were tough challenges. Currently, we have 34 State Assembly Members compared to PN's 22 State Assembly seats, giving us a 12-seat advantage in the State Assembly.
