Polls: 41 independent candidates fail to win any seats, 39 lost deposits

KUALA LUMPUR - All Independent candidates failed to win seats in the state elections in six states, according to Election Commission (EC) data.

A total of 41 Independent candidates contested with 10 candidates each in Selangor, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan, five candidates each in Kelantan and Penang and one in Terengganu.

Of these, 39 Independent candidates lost their deposit.

Contesting candidates lose their deposits if they fail to obtain one-eighth or 12.5 per cent of the total number of votes counted for the state constituency involved.

Yessu Samuel, who contested in the Nilai seat, obtained the lowest number of votes which was 57 votes.

The state election saw the combination of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) winning in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. - BERNAMA
