Polls: People’s mandate to be basis for collaboration in Unity Gov’t - Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR - The people’s mandate that was translated through the results of the state polls will be used as a basis of togetherness to empower the cooperation of all parties in the Unity Government.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this was to ensure the Unity Government will remain strong in governing the country for the next five years.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the party and its partners in the Unity Government respected the results of the elections in the six states, which saw them retaining control in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.
"To all the people who fulfilled their responsibility and trust by voting... nourishing the process of democracy in the country, our highest appreciation for your commitment and concern to determine a brighter future for the state and country,” he said in a statement today.
The Umno president also congratulated all the candidates who won and hoped they will shoulder the trust given to them to serve the people as best they can.
"For those who did not succeed, persist and don't ever stop fighting for the people's aspirations when faced with challenges," he said.
He also thanked all party members, the party machinery and volunteers who had worked hard in helping BN during the election campaign.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid accompanied Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the PH-BN war room at the World Trade Centre KL (WTCKL) to follow the official announcement of the election results. - BERNAMA
