State elections: PH wins 21 seats in Penang

PUTRAJAYA - Pakatan Harapan (PH) has successfully won 21 seats in the state legislative assembly contested in the Penang state elections.

According to the Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, the decision is based on the overall vote count as of 10.34pm.

"PH managed to secure victories in 21 seats out of the 40 seats contested.

"The coalition has also obtained a majority exceeding 50 percent," he said at a press conference on the state elections and the Kuala Terengganu by-election on Saturday.

A total of 570 candidates contested to win 245 state seats in Saturday's elections.

Approximately 9,773,571 voters were eligible to vote at 3,190 polling centres.
