Polls: Sanusi allegedly 'flashed' ballot paper, violating Election Offences Act 1954
KUALA LUMPUR - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor allegedly violated the Election Offences Act 1954 when he flashed his ballot paper for the media.
X (formerly known as Twitter) user @La_FarEast shared an image displaying Sanusi showed his selection on the ballot paper before inserting it into the ballot box.
A review of the act found it to be in violation under Article (39), which states no voter who has cast a vote in any election may, in any proceedings relating to the election, state whom he has voted for.
The act stated the offence would have a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine of up to RM3,000 or both if found guilty.
Malaysiakini news portal reported a similar incident had happened in the Besut By-Election in 2013 when the then BN candidate Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman did the same actions and was reprimanded by then EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof. - AWANI
