SHAH ALAM - Voters in Terengganu showed enthusiasm in fulfilling their responsibilities as Malaysian citizens by recording the highest percentage of voter turnout in the state elections across six states, reaching 70 per cent as of 4pm.

The Election Commission (EC), through its Facebook page on Saturday said Kedah and Penang closely followed, each recording a voter turnout percentage of 68 and 67 per cent, respectively.

"Meanwhile, Selangor closely trails Penang with a two per cent difference, placing the state in the fourth highest position for voter turnout percentage. Negeri Sembilan follows it with 62 per cent," it said.

However, the EC said Kelantan has the lowest voter turnout percentage, not reaching 60 per cent before polling centres close at 6pm.

Furthermore, the voter turnout percentage for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election recorded as of 4pm was 67 per cent.

A total of 3,190 polling centres containing 17,048 booths or channels for voting were opened starting from 8am today for the state elections across six states.

Also, 41 polling centers involving 217 booths or channels for voting for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election were opened.
