TAMPIN - An elderly woman collapsed at the polling center of Sekolah Kebangsaan Rokan while attempting to vote on Saturday.

In the 11am incident, the 83-year-old victim had just dipped her finger in the indelible ink before collapsing.

Tampin District Police Chief Superintendent Anuwal Ab Wahab said initial investigations revealed that the victim had come to the school to vote with her family.

"The woman suddenly fell and lost consciousness after dipping her finger in the ink.

"Her family then took her to the Gemencheh Health Clinic. While at the clinic, she was still conscious, but her oxygen levels were decreasing," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Anuwal said the victim received respiratory assistance from the clinic's medical assistant, but unfortunately, they could not save her.

Before the incident, Anuwal said the victim had complained to her family that she had been experiencing leg pain since returning from Umrah.

"Based on her medical records, it is understood that the victim had high blood pressure," he said.
