State Polls: Early arrival to set an example for the youth

REMBAU - Polling centre at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Chung Hua in Rantau had voters waiting outside the school gates ahead of its official opening hour.

Retiree Abdul Abdul Rahim Mohd Taib, 68 said he arrived earlier to set an example not only for his own children but also for the younger generation and the kampong folks.

The father of five children arrived an hour before the polling centre was opened at 8am.

"After the Subuh prayer, I came straight here, had my breakfast at a nearby shop and by 7.30am, I was in line in front of the school and was among the earliest to finish voting.

"After this, my child would come to vote because we take turn to guard the house," he said.

For student Asmira Maisarah Mohd Syukri, she came early as she had to rush to another polling center.

"After this, I'll head to Mambau for duty.

"In the previous elections, I didn't come this early to vote, but today I had to come early due to work matters," said the 19-year-old student.

Due to work demands as well, Chua Yung Kang, 38, arrived at around 7am.

"I work in Balakong, Selangor and it takes about an hour from here. That's why I came early to vote.

"Furthermore, arriving early is calmer because there aren't many people yet.

"With Covid-19 still around, there's some concern too, right?" he said.

The Rantau State Assembly seat witnessed a one-on-one contest between the representative from Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and the candidate from Perikatan Nasional (PN) Rozmal Malakan.
