Dr M urges the public to come out and vote

ALOR SETAR: Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, called on voters in all six states holding state elections (PRN) to fulfill their respective responsibilities before the polling centers close this evening.

According to him, the state elections is an important platform for the people in the states to be involved in choosing the government they prefer for the next five years.

"In the past (in previous elections), more people turned out to vote. This time, not as many, sometimes our people don't care... many should come out because this determines their fate and future.

"However, sometimes the people feel bored (with the political situation) or they feel the choice for (state government) doesn't make a difference (to them). This is an irresponsible feeling to have because we will suffer if we get a bad government," the 98-year-old statesman said.

Dr. Mahathir, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Langkawi, said this to reporters after casting his vote at the Titi Gajah National School here today.

Earlier, Dr. Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, arrived at the school at 9:10 am before casting their votes at 9:22 am and 9:24 am, respectively.

Meanwhile, when asked about his health status following his recent admission to the National Heart Institute (IJN), Dr. Mahathir informed that he is in good health.

"My health condition is good now even though I had a slight fever before this.

"The doctor asked me to go to the hospital but I didn't want to, thinking that I could be examined and treated at home. However, they still wanted me to go to the hospital so I went and right now I'm in good condition," AWANI
