State polls: Terengganu announces special holiday on Sunday
KUALA TERENGGANU - The Terengganu state government has declared Sunday a special holiday in conjunction with the state election taking place on Saturday.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said this decision was made to facilitate out-of-state voters who work in Terengganu returning to their respective polling locations.
"This announcement also takes into consideration the responsibilities and aims to facilitate state government employees who are on duty until late at night to assist the Election Commission (EC) on polling day.
"The state government hopes that this announcement will provide convenience and comfort to all those involved in the democratic process on Aug 12," he mentioned in a Facebook post on Friday.
The Election Commission (EC) previously set Aug 12 as the polling day for the six state elections and the parliamentary by-election in Kuala Terengganu. The candidate nomination date was set for July 29, while early voting took place on Aug 8.
The six states involved are Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor, and Penang.
In total, 9,796,616 eligible voters will participate, comprising 9,674,456 voters for the state election and 122,160 for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election.
