SHAH ALAM - As the state elections are happening tomorrow, Sinar Daily talks to the members of the public about who they think shall be the next Selangor Menteri Besar (MB).

However, the public were divided on who should assume the position, deemed the most important position one could seize for this state polls.

Senior system administrator at IT firm Hashvin Rao Ragu, 26, expressed that the next Selangor MB should be a new face.

“I won’t suggest the existing candidates who are contesting the seat, but we need someone to help the Selangor people.

“Yes, Selangor MB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is doing a good job, especially those who are in need - the B40 category - for providing necessary health as Peduli Sihat and vouchers for groceries and helping B40 and doing a good job in his role,” he said.

Commenting further, he added, former MB Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was not capable of managing Selangor.

“He is not capable of managing his (own) problem, so how is he going to manage Selangor, which is a very important state in Malaysia,” he expressed.

Besides, kindergarten principal Kausalya Appalanidu, 50, said Amirudin should be Selangor MB because he had done outstanding work and helped many people.

“He helps many single mothers and I’m saying it as I’m a single mother as well, so I received many benefits for my children myself such as provisions, medical and so on,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bersatu Youth (Armada) committee member Mohd Firdauz Nasir, 37 said that the poster boy for Selangor MB would be up to Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We want to seize the Selangor government to build a better Selangor for the people. Let us win first, then we decide on who is capable of being the MB,” he said.

Firdauz’s view was echoed by business owner Mohd Sapidin Amaran, 46, who said that PN’s council would decide on the MB candidate.

“It is also based on the Sultan of Selangor, so we let them decide who will be the MB,” he said.

Sapidin also commented on the performance of caretaker Selangor MB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari who he claimed mixed up his duties with people’s affairs.

“There are new issues which we can see in the Sementa issue, where foul-smelling garbage pollutes the Kapar River area in Kapar Indah and the people’s management which he overlooked.

Previously, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had announced that Amirudin would be retained as menteri besar if the unity government in Selangor stayed in power after the state election next month.

For PN, it was reported that the coalition had reached a consensus on who would be the MB if they managed to wrestle the state from PH but yet to announce the candidate for the post.
