Malaysian consulate hands over water pumps to West Kalimantan
JAKARTA - The Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak has provided assistance in the form of six water pumps to the West Kalimantan Provincial Government.
These water pumps, aimed at assisting in forest and land fire prevention and mitigation within the province, were received by West Kalimantan Governor Sutarmidji.
According to Sutarmidji, the collaboration with the consulate has become a regular practice because of geographical proximity and the presence of Malaysian investors in the plantation sector there.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered to address the shortage of oxygen supply and successfully averted any such scarcity,” he said in a statement.
Consul Azizul Zekri Abd Rahimi said this aid signifies the Malaysian government’s commitment to supporting West Kalimantan’s ongoing efforts in addressing open fires caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
"This phenomenon is expected to impact not only Indonesia but also other countries, including Malaysia.”
Local meteorological station reported that there will be minimal rainfall in the province over the next 10-day starting today, largely influenced by the emergence of El Niño. - BERNAMA
