Suspect detained after police fired warning shots
MUHAMMAD AMINNURALIFFKUALA LUMPUR - An unemployed man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to evade the authorities, which prompted police to fire nine warning shots at Jalan Kepong, on Monday.
The suspect, in his 40s and a local resident, was detained in Kajang on Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin said the suspect's arrest was successful due to police surveillance.
"Upon investigation, the suspect was found to be listed as a wanted individual and believed to be involved in burglary activities.
"However, he is not believed to be involved in any organised criminal activities," he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Friday.
He added that the suspect has been remanded for five days to facilitate the investigation.
"The case is being probed under Section 307 of the Penal Code (attempted murder) and Section 353 of the Penal Code (use of criminal force to deter a public servant)," he explained.
According to him, another accomplice of the suspect involved in the incident has been identified.
"The police are conducting an operation to arrest another accomplice believed to be involved in this incident.
"Any developments will be communicated to the media subsequently," he said.
On Monday, a tense situation unfolded at Jalan Kepong as several police officers fired shots after a car believed to be driven by the suspect refused to stop upon being signalled to do so.
The Proton Wira car, carrying two men, was pursued by police officers from Taman Pusat Kepong to Laman Rimbunan, Jalan Kepong, here.
The suspect then acted aggressively by reversing the car and attempting to ram one of the police officers.
