SHAH ALAM - The Veterinary Services Department (DVS) confirms it has issued an order suspending the import of cattle from Australia on Aug 4, 2023.

DVS, in a statement, said it was due to the signs of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) infections detected by Indonesian authorities in cattle imported from Australia.

It said the suspension action was temporary and was taken simply as a precautionary measure.

DVS said the evaluation of the import of cattle from Australia into Malaysia was valued at RM25,547,355,00.

"Following the suspension of the import, a debate session between the DVS and the Australian Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Department (DAFF) was held on Aug 7, 2023.

"DAFF agreed to share investigation reports related to the claims by the Indonesian parties," it said.

The statement added that DVS was waiting for the complete report from DAFF for further actions.

"To ensure the livestock sector in the nation was free of any risk of diseases, the DVS is always ensuring all imports of livestock follow protocol and procedures set by the Malaysian government.
