The PSI project in Penang not solving the problems, but a burden to Penangites — Tuan Ibrahim
BAYAN LEPAS — Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man congratulates the Bayan Lepas fishermen for standing in solidarity with objections to the controversial Penang South Island (PSI) project undertaken by the Penang government and its developer.
Speaking at a ceramah in Bayan Lepas tonight, he said the project would only worsen traffic congestion in the state.
"This is not a solution to the problem but adds to the problem. In regards to this issue, the state government should take into account all voices—the voice of the rakyat and the voice of non-profit organisations, not to continue with this project.
"With that, I would like to congratulate the rakyat of Bayan Lepas for protesting," he, who is former Environment and Water Minister, said.
The Kubang Kerian MP further elaborated that this will not only permanently affect the fisherman’s daily income but also have repercussions the sea's ecosystem.
"Not only will it affect the ecosystem in Penang, but it will affect the whole of northern Malaysia," he added.
This project is a new urban development off the coast of Penang Island that includes homes, leisure, and work sites.
It is intended to be an Internet of Things (IOT)-enabled smart city to complement Georgetown.
