SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for Pandamaran seat B Gunalan, who was mocked by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for a spelling mistake in his campaign material, considers the issues of residents in the area to be more important than the matter.

Quoting a Malaysiakini report, Gunalan said Tony Leong Tuck Chee, who is also contesting for the same seat, should focus on local issues before pointing out the mistakes of others.

"Tony (Leong) should realise that he needs to correct himself before finding faults in others. I want to remind him to pay attention to the issues faced by residents.

"Until today, even though he has been the representative for this area for over five years, issues such as floods, overgrown weeds, trash collection, and infrastructure have not been resolved.

"Don't meddle in the mistakes of others; focus on yourself first," he said.

Earlier, Leong had mocked Gunalan by posting the campaign materials of the PN candidate on social media, which had a spelling mistake.

Further commenting, Gunalan, a former member of the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), explained that the Pandamaran seat covers a vast area and frequently experiences flash floods, causing inconvenience and financial losses for the people.

He also questioned Leong's actions, which he believed did not address the problems faced by the people in the area.

"I would like to ask, what has Tony (Leong) done to solve the problems here, where drains and six-foot-high ditches are filled with overgrown weeds and grass? "This is not something new, and it has been going on for months to the point where the grass and bushes are so high.

"With such conditions of the drains, it will undoubtedly affect the commercial elements of the area," he claimed.

However, Gunalan acknowledged that contesting under the PN ticket against Leong is not easy despite being a Klang local.

He said he understands that the area Leong has been overseeing since 2018 will support PH because he is known to the residents.

"I understand that he will likely win by a large majority; his party is well-known among the residents here.

"But considering the state of affairs and the level of amenities, let the voters judge for themselves if their promises have been fulfilled so far," he explained.
