Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2023 to stage its runway across seven locations
Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2023 (KLFW) is making a triumphant return to not one but seven different locations to celebrate its 11th anniversary.
This year’s edition holds special significance with the new format, which offers a new sense of intimacy for fashion lovers and fashion designers.
The runway will be set at Sofitel Damansara, Parkroyal Collection KL, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Platinum Park KL, ALoft KL Sentral, Boathouse Kuala Lumpur, and Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur.
Not to mention, seven designers will be making their debut at KLFW 2023.
The man behind KLFW, Andrew Tan expressed his gratitude over the support he received from friends in the industry to conduct another fashion show this year.
"I just thought in my mind that when I look at what's happening in Paris, Milan, and New York, I told myself that I want to do something that is celebrating our city, but obviously, celebrating in different locations.
"It is exciting to see fashion enthusiasts going from one place to another to celebrate fashion.
"It is our 11th year, and we want to be different. We want to break all rules," he said at the media launch for KLFW.
Tan also excitedly shared about the line-up.
"From what I saw during the fittings, I’m very excited.
"The designers are breaking rules, they are emphasising on variability.
"I could see the pressure in them, but they all know it is very important. This platform is important to them," he said.
On its 11th anniversary, KLFW is also celebrating sustainability, a continuous effort from KLFW 2022. One of its initiative is the KL 10 Designer Search competition, where it aims to support local new designers spread their wings in the industry.
This time, the competition carries elements of sustainability.
"We have always supported sustainability. We have a segment called Design to Sustain.
"We have three young designers from last year's KL 10 Designer Search. I’m not only about the design competition; it's also about what goes after the design competition.
"Usually, it's kept in the closet somewhere. I made the effort to connect and transect that into a business opportunity, and I am blessed because Isetan is giving a spot to the three designers to sell their designs at their store.
"I feel like my mission for that is accomplished, and it is happening because of the support from Isetan," Tan said in an interview with Sinar Daily.
Slated for Aug 21 to 27, the event is set to feature an impressive display of 50 Malaysian designers' ready-to-wear collections on the runway.
