State Election: TNB guarantees stable electricity supply on August 12

SHAH ALAM – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has assured that the electricity supply in 3,214 polling stations and 180 official vote tallying centers for the six states involved in the state election (PRN) on 12 August will be stable.

Chief Distribution Network Officer, Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood said, more than 2,500 TNB workers are assigned to always be on standby on the field and in the operation room during the voting process.

"TNB has already made preliminary preparations in an effort to ensure that the technical, operational and standby aspects of electricity supply to those locations are always guaranteed.

"We have also deployed a task force to monitor and standby for these important locations," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said this upon commenting on the nomination process on July 29 and the early voting on August 8 that went smoothly without any incident of electricity supply disruption.

He however said, as a precautionary measure, TNB reminded all parties to refrain from excavation work in an effort to reduce the risk of touching electric cables, thereby avoiding the possibility of supply disruptions due to cable damage.

Wan Nazmy also explained that a total of 198 mobile power generator trucks and 144 mobile power generator sets were placed in preparation to provide supplies if needed.

"The electricity supply situation throughout the country is being monitored at all times until the process of official tallying of votes which is expected to continue until midnight on August 12 or early morning of the next day," he added.

He said, TNB appreciates the cooperation and assistance provided by the Malaysian Election Commission (SPR), Public Works Department (JKR), apart from the local authorities (PBT) in each state involved in obtaining detailed feedback on electricity needs.

He added that the company had taken important measures and hoping that everything would be under control during the day of the event.
