SHAH ALAM - Selangor cops have completed investigations into the indecent act of British rock band The 1975 at the Good Vibes 2023 last July.

State Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said 28 statements had been recorded, covering 17 conversations from complainants, those from the Foreign Film Filming and Performing Artists Committee (Puspal) and the organiser.

"Only the (members) of the rock group involved who had left the country at the time of the incident could not be interviewed.

"The investigation have been completed and we will hand it over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action as soon as possible," he said in a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters on Thursday.

On July 21, The 1975's performance was abruptly halted after its vocalist, Matty Healy, called the Malaysian government "retarded" for laws on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) community and "protested" with an on-stage kiss with bandmate Ross MacDonald, took place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on June 21.

The group fled Malaysia to their home country shortly after their performance.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the Malaysian police would deal with its United Kingdom counterparts should legal action be initiated.

The case is being investigated under Sections 509 and 504 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955.
